I think that it is hard to find a good balance when it comes to gun rights. The fact that there have been around 20,000 deaths by gun in recent years is horrific. There needs to be a solution, but this problem is one that is almost impossible to solve. There seem to be only three major options: ban guns from being sold to people that aren’t in the military, have extremely strict gun laws, or prohibit most places from selling guns (only having specialized government facilities sell them). Even though each of these options seem to be the only way, even each of these options don’t seem to work. Banning guns from anyone that is not in the military might eliminate gun violence, but you could argue that it could increase other types of violence. Sometimes a gun is how someone has to defend themselves, and in some cases it would cause even more devastation not to use a gun. Also there are some people who use guns when hunting or as a hobby, and I’m sure most of them would be upset with a ban on guns; one could ask “doesn’t that take away personal freedom?”
The next option is having extremely strict gun laws. Although this would most likely decrease gun deaths, one could ask “what will the requirements be?” Would it include not having any mental health issues? Would they have to research your background information and your criminal record? And just asking people obviously wouldn’t work because they could be lying about why they want the gun or what they will do with it. Prohibiting places from selling guns would also be an issue. The people that need guns for self defense would have a much more difficult time accessing them and that also seems like a violation of rights. Gun laws are very difficult for all of those reasons. Although it is very difficult to make a decision on how to handle this topic, the United States needs to find a solution soon. If they don’t find a solution soon the amount of gun deaths might just continue to rise, which would be horrible if we didn’t at least try something to help. But what if instead of these options, people were just more educated on guns? What if they were more trained? I believe that training people to use guns safely and properly could solve a lot of the problems associated with guns and the laws that revolve around them (it obviously would not solve all the problems, but at least people would know what they are doing). Programs such as the iShooter laser firearms training system allow people to learn how to correctly use a gun as a defense mechanism. With the amount of citizens that own guns, it is important that guns are mostly used to protect instead of attack. Programs like iShooter make learning to use a gun safe using only an app and a laser simulator. Such applications of dry fire, make training with weapons safe, using only the application and laser simulator, and if supplemented with a projector and special programs, you can even organize a full-fledged virtual shooting range in your own home. Firearms training is incredibly important in the society that we live in today.
